What Causes Tricep Tendinopathy Or Triceps Tendonitis?

Tricep tendinopathy is a condition characterised by pain localised to the tricep tendon, like all tendinopathies it is degenerative nature in and a chronic condition that can last weeks to months, possibly even years if not treated optimally.

Tricep tendinopathy is often caused by repetitive overuse of the triceps. This can be due to a job that requires repetitive use of the shoulder or elbow, like in baseball or tennis, or an intense shoulder, arm, or chest workout routine. This intense activity stimulates a degenerative change within the tendon, it losses its integrity and its fibres become disorganised. Another cause of tendinopathies are a history of injury – in which the damaged tendon never healed completely or optimally.

What Are The Symptoms Of Triceps Tendinopathy?

The symptoms of tricep tendinopathy vary depending on the severity of the condition. Some common symptoms include:

  • Pain in the triceps that increases with activity.
  • Tenderness and swelling around the tricep.
  • Weakness in the triceps muscle.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is a non-invasive tricep tendinopathy treatment that uses light to stimulate biological and cellular changes in the body. This treatment increases circulation, reduces inflammation, and promotes tissue healing.

Laser therapy uses light to stimulate the cells in tricep tendon, which reduces inflammation and promotes tissue healing.

Exercise Therapy For The Triceps

Chronic tendinopathies can lead to muscle weakness, which can be addressed with exercise therapy. But not only that exercise therapy also reduce pain and discomfort, and improves range of motion. This can often be addressed with a targeted exercise therapy program.

Our physical therapists will work with you to develop an individualised exercise program that will help increase your strength and improve your function.

Intrinsic Core Strengthening

Weakness in the core muscles is often a contributing factor to tricep tendinopathy. Strengthening the core muscles with exercises that specifically target them can help reduce the risk of tricep tendonitis developing.
